While Apple has already introduced a number of iPhone compatible applications which offer new, personalized, health-monitoring functionality, a patent released in late November reveals a degree of heightened technological innovation. Namely, Apple’s new technology utilizes infrared photodectors (integrated into an earbud) to measure blood flow, temperature, heart rate as well as blood-oxygen level; using wireless technology, the iphone would then serve as a repository for new health statistics. Pairing the technology with health-specific applications, users could analyze fitness performance and overall health.
