SHOWCASE AWARD

Award Process

See the Ceremony

Step 1: Submission of Showcases until December 1st 2009.

Solutions are submitted to the Living Labs Global Showcases and thereby published to an international expert community of around 40.000 reviewers per year through our online portal. A Showcase is submitted as a short, 1-page description of the solution, its impact on a challenge, and market potential. Submission closes on December 1st, when each Category Jury, presided by the Category Partner City / Organisation, will evaluate all submitted entries.

Living Labs Global will check each submitted Showcase to assure that it complies with the selection criteria, especially to assure that existing solutions and not ideas for services are submitted. Further, Living Labs Global will professionally edit each Showcase, to assure that language is consistent and marketing limited.

All Showcases will be published on our web-portal in this first phase of the Award Process. There is no need to assign your Showcase(s) to a specific Award Category, and your Showcase may win in more than one Award Category.

Entries can be submitted at http://www.livinglabs-global.com/showcase/ or by clicking here.

Step 2: Shortlisted Showcases Submit Multimedia Content. December 15th 2009 – January 31st 2010.

Each Award Category Jury will present a shortlist of the Top 5 Showcases on December 15th 2009.. This Shortlist will be published and participants will be informed. Shortlisted Showcases have then got the possibility to submit multimedia material to support their Showcase and its impact until the 31st of January 2010.

Shortlist entries will be held confidential and will not be published until the Award Ceremony.

Step 3: Award Ceremony. February 14th 2010

Winners of the Living Labs Global Showcase Award will be presented in an Award Ceremony on February 14th 2010. Multimedia Showcases by the shortlisted entries will be presented to the public at the Award Ceremony and the Winners will be publicly announced.

Details of the Award Ceremony will be announced in December 2009.

Award Jury and Evaluation Criteria

Entries are limited to the standard Living Labs Global Showcase format (www.livinglabs-global.com/showcase/) and will be evaluated by Jurors selected for each Award Category. Jurors will not be made public until the Award Ceremony, to avoid unfair lobbying of jury members during the award process. Each Category Jury will be international, will include public and private leaders as well as experts. Category Partners, i.e. the cities defining the theme, will preside the Jury.

Three overall criteria will be used for the evaluation of the Showcases:

Innovation Height

Describes the uniqueness, newness and audacity of product, service or solution proposed by the showcase. Innovations can be reconfiguration of existing ideas or genuine new ideas ranging from smaller incremental innovations to game changing and revolutionary insights that enlarge our understanding and expands our insights.

Potential Impact

The expected positive effects on society, industry, and individuals in terms of new efficiencies, effectiveness, or new opportunities. The measures can be quantifiable, such as increasing productivity, reducing input factors, or limiting adverse effects such as pollution. The measures can also be more qualitative, such as quality of life, improved integration of marginal groups, changing world views, or sparking creativity, awareness and learning.

Market Potential

The potential size and reach of markets. Although new ideas might be amazing, their survival often rests on the ability to find adequate market to sustain their introduction, development, and long-term prosperity. Market potential offsets the initial perceived risk, and makes investment and support from third parties possible.
