A digitally enabled accessible ecoCity.
Sant Cugat del Vallés (Spain), 76.000 citizens.
Located in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, Sant Cugat is an innovative community with demanding and highly qualified, international citizens. The city follows a strategy in which sustainability, service excellence and economic growth are based on an innovation plan prioritising the attraction and retention of talent, universal access, training and creation of networks. The vision is to create a highly digital European "eco-city of knowledge".
Already today the city deploys a range of innovative digital services to achieve these objectives and engage citizens in all processes. The city space already today operates as a piloting ground for new technologies and services addressing the needs for environmental sustainability, access to digital services for all, more efficient and integrated transport, environmental emergency responses, IPTV, and virtual offices.
Sant Cugat is seeking solutions that can help the city improve its environmental management and performance through measures that can improve mobility, enable new forms of working, deliver more services digitally, improved urban sensing (urbiotics), alerting citizens of environmental emergencies (weather alarm), involving citizens in reporting urban incidents, car-sharing, cashless payments and parking management.
